A Visitor On Europe’s Roads

UpCo in Otley

Thursday gave us our only day off from performing. It was a short drive from York down to Otley and Boff Whalley had offered for us to stay at his place before the show at UpCo the following evening.

As you can see from the picture, Boff’s house was preparing for Halloween.

We were very fortunate in having lovely weather for our stay. The featured image above is taken looking down on Otley from the hill at the end of Boff’s road. In the evening, he took us into Leeds for their annual Light Night with many performers and stunning audio-visuals.

On Friday evening, the gig was at UpCo. Boff and others had spent a year looking for studio, writing and storage space in Otley. Finally they found two floors of space above an empty shop in Courthouse Street and across the road from a firm of solicitors called Savage Crangle. It took them two more years to create a set of four studio spaces, a large storage area, a small kitchen and an upstairs room ready to hire out for classes/workshops.

As you go up the stairs you are reminded of the philosophy ….
The exhibition at the time we were there features artwork by Josh Sutton and his long-held fascination with typewriters and the words of those who used them.

Ray began his set with The Beast followed by Falling Like Thunder. A pair of songs written two years apart and both reflecting on the world we live in now and how we got here. To read the lyrics for these two songs, click on these links to Ray’s website: The BeastFalling Like Thunder
