Although Ray continues touring this June, with further shows including two festivals and then another tour in Germany in September, I will not tour with him again until he visits the UK in November 2025.
To sign off these tour notes, here is a repeat of a story from the King Winter Tour of Canada in January/February 2020.
A few years ago, a band was touring Canada and played a gig in an old theatre in the middle of town. I say old, it was built around 1911.
The guitarist, a roadie and the tour manager were sat in the dressing room after the show, having a drink. The guitarist fidgeted around underneath his chair and found an old can of beer covered in dust. He was rubbing the dust off when whoosh, a genie appeared.
“I am the genie of the beer. I can grant three wishes.”
He turned to the guitarist and said: “what is your wish?”
The guitarist thought and said: “I’d like to be in Thailand, sitting on the beach with a large cocktail and surrounded by beautiful women.”
Whoosh and he was gone.
The genie turned to the roadie and said: “what is your wish?”
The roadie replied: “I’d like to be in a really kicking club in Munich with the music blaring out after downing a whole bunch of Jägermeister.”
Whoosh and he disappeared.
The genie turned to the tour manager and said: “what is your wish?”
The tour manager thought for a moment, then looked at his watch and said:
….
….
“I want those two guys back here in five minutes”.
