Last night was Ray’s first public show on this tour. Last night he played a private concert in a cattle barn on a farm. As we unpacked the electric keyboard, I had to shake out the straw from the case.
This show was hosted by his friend Farmer George in the function room at the back of the Tidenhub restaurant on the bank of the river Luhe on the edge of Winsen.
The restaurant has many outdoor areas. We ate right a lovely meal of pickled herring down by the river in the covered area you can see at the back of this picture. The concert was in the room on the left.
Tidenhub and the local people really were the perfect venue and audience to start the tour. Ray played his black cello and revisited many songs from his earlier albums, including a new arrangement for The Promised Land, on guitar rather than piano. He also has his mandolin on this tour and used it for Little Flame in the first set and then Wayfaring Stranger to finish as his second encore.
They have breeding storks around here and are proud of them. The sign reads “The food supply is crucial for breeding success. Number is fledged young from this next 2007-2012: 13.”
All the breads are organic and baked using grain from within a 40km radius.
