On Tuesday, Ray’s friend Thies arranged a special event including a days’ sailing, a meal and a concert at the harbourside cafe. The sailing was on the Albin Köbis, a wooden fishing boat converted for group sailing. The captain has owned the boat for some six years and it operates between March and October, taking tours around the Baltic. All those on the boat had to help with raising and lowering the sails.
We sailed out on the Flensburg Fjord to the farthest northern point in Germany. On one side of the Fjord is Germany while the other side is Denmark.
We had a very relaxing few hours. As the captain told us: “All problems are water-soluble“.
With a gentle breeze, we sailed slowly which gave Ray the opportunity to sing.
Of course, being on a boat, Ray started with Spanish Ladies with the chorus taking us along the English Channel. He followed with The Highwayman which took us around Cape Horn in a storm.
Later Ray brought out his guitar again with harmonica to play Sleeping Giant, Tears Of Isis, Black Is The Colour, I Kiss The Night and The Promised Land.
After returning to the harbour and the cafe in the boatyard, we were treated to a fine meal and then set up for the evening concert.
As well as those from the days’ sailing, people living on the boats were attracted by the sound of music and came for the concert.
On Wednesday, we need to drive back down south to Einbeck for a public concert at the Magische Mühle in Einbeck.
