Saturday found us in Bröckel, a small village in a very rural area north east of Hannover. Antikhof Drei Eichen is an antiques and arts centre and hosts music concerts once a month. We have been here before, at the end May in 2023 when it was warm enough to set up outside. Now it is September so we have moved inside.
Drei Eichen means Three Oaks. There are three oak trees here along the road side but the path to the house is covered in conkers!!

It is on the Via Romea Germanica which is a 2,200-kilometer historic pilgrimage and cultural route running from Stade in northern Germany all the way to Rome, Italy.
The route began in 1238 when an abbot walked to Rome to petition the Pope. The Pope agreed but when the abbot got back home his Bishop would not agree so the abbot retired to his monastery and wrote the story of his walk. A few hundred years later this story was picked up and made into a Pilgrim’s walk. It’s still walked today by people from many countries who stay at the Drei Eichen and fill in the visitors book.
The venue itself was the village pub from 1738 to 1980. It is full of antiques and curios.
People started arriving very early for music starting at 8pm. Then we discovered that Torsten, the owner, serves soup and bread from 7pm. This is a very social gathering.
