A Day Off

Wednesday was a day off which we spent staying with Ulf nearby to Mitlechtern. This was the second sunny day of the tour and we were able to walk up the hill from behind Ulf’s house to a maintained path through the woods and fields.

This display by the side of the track illustrates the change in agriculture and loss of wildlife here over the last 70 years.
Ulf regularly walks these hills knew it was time to collect nuts and fruit. He had brought a bag to collect hazelnuts and apples.
There were a lot of apples ready to pick and in the evening we enjoyed home-made apple crumble.

Although some buildings are clearly very old, others may not be as it became common to build timber-framed houses in the 1920’s. Only 100 years ago.

The final photograph from our walk shows how a herd of wild boar can mess up a field.
